Tips for Studying and Time Management

One of the problems that moms everywhere are facing is how to make your kid study? It’s a nightmare hunting them where there is no way to escape. What makes it really hard is actually capturing your kid’s attention, so you can start your own journey of simplifying a whole world to him.

Despite the hardness of how to get kids’ attention, and how impossible this could be, teachers are doing it every day effortlessly. They can simply keep the class quiet, make students interact, and explain every lesson to them, so if they can do it, why can’t moms?

To help you understand what you as a mom are doing wrong, you have to know that all teachers have spent years and years studying the psychology of kids and how their brains work at different ages. This is why you should study at first the fundamentals of time management and take a look in the curriculums themselves. After that, you will get to a point when you try and error to capture your kids’ attention, so they won’t feel bored while studying, instead, it becomes your fun quality time of the day.

One of the vital points you need to know before launching your study project with your kids is knowing how they think, their attention span, and what interests them the most. Then you need to establish an atmosphere where they can study well while having fun, not just a task they need to get it done so they won’t get punished when hitting low grades.

Tips and tricks to get your kid psychologically onboard

  • Make sure they eat healthy food: To avoid the stress that Gen-Z is having these days, you need to help them eat healthy food that benefits them with the vitamins and minerals they need to exceed. Their food needs to have colorful veggies, Calcium, and Iron.
  • Today’s tasks are for today: Benjamin Franklin once said, “Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today, so don’t wait for the perfect day to start your mini study group, just do it. And always remember, in order for your kid to do things on time, you need to be the best role model when it comes to that.
  • Don’t study where you sleep: The biggest mistake you can do is studying with your kid in the bedroom. Psychologically speaking; bedrooms are associated with low energy, relaxing, and definitely sleeping to all of us! So if you took something that needs energy and concentration like studying, and made it happen in a bedroom, you will fail!
  • Try the Promodoro Technique: It’s a time management system that adopts the idea of breaking down any work you’re doing into 25-minutes chunks to be followed by a reward of a 5-minute break.
  • Test your kid frequently: Doing a quick quiz will help you both understand where are standing now? Are you guys having a step forward or backward? You don’t need to do quizzes only when exams are on the corner, it can be a weekly routine to encourage you both to keep moving forward. This will help you edit and tailor your studying program within the outcomes of every test, in addition, to establishing a rewarding system to encourage your kid to keep up the good work.

How to improve your studying and memorizing skills?

  • Summarize each paragraph: You need to summarize your lessons by reading it well, then summarize each paragraph in a one-paper-lesson file that will help you monitor what you got and what you have missed in each lesson.

  • Break things down for your brain: If you are trying to summarize a 10-lines-paragraph, you need to break it down into points, these points should have the basic information that you need to understand and memorize. For example, if this is the paragraph you want to study “Rowad Al Khaleej International Schools offer wonderful educational opportunities for Saudi and International students. The school consists of two divisions, for boys and girls, housed in modern and advanced facilities which create a positive learning environment for students and staff”, it will go like this:
  • Basic information of Rowad Al Khaleej:
  • It’s a Saudi-based international school.
  • It’s a subsidiary of Al Khaleej Training & Education Company.
  • RAIS is accredited by Cognia institution.
  • They have separate classes for boys and girls.
  • RAIS enrolls both the local Saudis and foreign
  • Write your lessons over and over again: One of the problems students face in reading and writing the information in front of them, and still end up achieving zero comprehension of what they should get out of it. It becomes a useless routine to them, but if they had to write one chunk of info over and over again without looking at their book, they will end up getting what they’re actually writing.
  • Use all your senses: When using the memorizing by writing technique you trigger one sense of your senses, but when you say what you’re studying out loud you’re keeping more senses triggered, and by taking it to another level and linking this information with pictures, you enhance your photographic memory as well.

How to make a strict studying schedule?

After understanding the psychological aspects of your children, you need to learn the fundamentals of time management by implementing an achievable daily routine. This routine should have the duration of your study, food, and sleeping details as well. For better results you should follow the following:

  • Use the general-to-specific order: By starting out with a yearly schedule with the names of the subjects, then lessons, tests dates, vacations, and more. Your next step then will be a monthly and weekly schedule that holds your everyday activities with your kid, including studying time, food time, sleeping time, practice time, and more.
  • Mix learning with playing: The edutainment technique had proven its success over the years. If your kid enjoys music, try turning lessons into songs, or if they like watching videos, go search for a nice online tutor on Youtube.
  • Trigger all your senses at once: Read the lesson, then try discussing it out loud. You can do a practice with your kid where they understand the lesson then try to explain it to you.
  • Be the role model: To make your kid follow their plans, you have to show them that you stick to yours. You’re the first role model your kids will have in their lives, so in order for them to do well in life, you have to show them how much you are trying to do well in yours.
