STEM Educational System
STEM Educational System is the abbreviation of the first 4 characters of the four scientific subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics). STEM is an educational system designed to integrate these four educational subjects into the basic curriculum, blending and connecting them.
The importance of applying this system
STEM prepares students’ minds to deal with contemporary science. According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, jobs in science, technology, and mathematics grew by 17 percent in 2018, nearly twice as high as non-STEM areas, and the projected growth of jobs related to STEM would reach 9 percent by 2024, compared with 6.4 percent for non-STEM jobs.
How is this system integrated into the main curriculum?
STEM is different from other traditional educational systems in that it does not rely on memorizing and indoctrination. STEM curriculum is designed according to the grades of the study in a way that suits the mental development of students as well as their ability to interact with the method of education where STEM system depends on the method of integrated projects in which different cognitive skills are used and applied. In the preparatory stage, the curriculum focuses on teaching mathematics, with intensive study of technology through experimentation laboratories, simulation, manufacturing, industrial arts, Computer-aided design (CAD), and. Computer-aided manufacturing (CAM).
At the high school level, it focuses on teaching mathematics, chemistry, and physics. Adopting specialized approach in science, engineering technology, mathematics, biology, earth, space, etc., engineering design, mechanics, civil, electricity, etc.; CAD technology, manufacturing, production design, etc.
