Tips to master the Arabic language and grammar successfully

The Arabic Language is not just words and letters, but rather a complete identity, a basic means of communication, a tool for expression, acquisition of knowledge and information, and maintaining the link between religion, society, history and our Arab origins, which have roots that extend back more than 1,400 years. 

The importance of the Arabic language for children 

The Arabic language is characterized by an ancient and authentic past, beginning with being the language in which the Noble Qur’an was revealed, and spoken by the Messenger, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him. Our mother tongue, which will remain an important hub for communicating with previous generations and building a future connected to our civilization. 

Therefore, it has become important and necessary to teach our children the origins of this language, its rules, and the correct way to write and speak it, and to develop in them a love of hearing it and expressing their thoughts with it. 

Having your child proficient in the Arabic language is an advantage and a blessing as many non-Arabic speakers turn to learning it at an old age so that they can read the Qur’an correctly, or communicate with Arabic-speaking individuals in the workplace or at school and university. 

The Arabic language is considered one of the most difficult languages in the world, and despite the intellectual invasion of the West and the dominance of the English language and the necessity of mastering it to raise the social and functional level, the Arabic language is still essential for communication between individuals in society and is used in various sectors. 

Here comes the role of parents and teachers to consolidate sound Arabic grammar for children to help them master it and enrich its importance in dialogue as well as in study, where children start from their first months in learning the language for understanding and speech as they learn the language of native speakers through listening and imitation. 

The best stage for learning the language properly is the childhood stage, so how do you teach your son the proper grammar of the Arabic language? 

Make sure you speak Arabic at home: 

Make the house a rich space for your child to practice speaking Arabic, preferably Standard Arabic, even if this is not your strong point. Practice grammar together as family members through different sources. Make this an interactive activity that combines fun and learning at home. Use correct grammatical rules to enrich knowledge of correct grammar and syntax.

Language games: 

Social games not only increase family bonding and create a great atmosphere of fun but are also an effective way to learn! You can use games such as “Inanimate Animal Name”, Scrabble, crosswords or complete missing sentences to develop your child’s Arabic skills and help him collect as many new words as possible, form Arabic sentences and spell words correctly. 

Watch movies and series dubbed or in Standard Arabic: 

Encourage your children to watch cartoon movies dubbed in Classical Arabic, in order to help them listen to the Arabic language with interest and at the same time have an enjoyable viewing experience, and listen to proper pronunciation of letter exits and a sound Arabic language, in addition to choosing a movie with rich and attractive content that develops their language as well as values and principles. They are encouraged to discuss and express their thoughts and understanding of what they have seen. 

Teach them to memorize the Holy Quran: 

Allocate time in the day to teach your children to read the Qur’an, taking into account the provisions of intonation and the proper pronunciation of the exits of letters and expressions, and make sure that they memorize them in an easy way daily with an explanation of the meanings of the verses and read their interpretation, learn intonation and understand what is behind the stories, which will help them to improve the Arabic language and memorize the Holy Book of God over time. To make their memorization time rich and enjoyable, encouraging them to read and memorize every day. 

Motivate them to read 

If they grow up to love reading, it will create from them a creative person in various aspects of life, not only the language, but reading books is one of the most important ways to improve the language, whether Arabic or English, increase the irritability of words and synonyms, raise the level of the child’s intelligence and awareness of the world and open a large window on new worlds. These books have sound grammar and follow the rules of grammar and rhetoric perfectly.
